CAPA® polymers are all produced by a ring opening addition polymerisation reaction rather than the condensation polymerisation reaction normally used for polyester production.
This simple but highly versatile chemistry enables the production of a wide range of polymers and copolymers to meet the high performance demands of the diverse range of speciality products made form CAPA® polymers.
The Polymerisation of Caprolactone Monomer

The performance of CAPA® polymers can be designed by modification of key parameters such as
- Molecular weight 300 to >100,000
- Functionality 1 to >100
- Polydispersity 1.2 minimum
- Copolymers Block and random
- Forms
-
- Polyols - liquids, pastes and waxes
- Thermoplastics - hard crystalline polymers, powders, films and fibres
- Reactivity
-
- Polyols all have primary -OH
- Mixed -OH and -COOH functionality available
- Carboxylic terminated polymers available
